Support the preservation of tartan for the future through the right membership for you

Life Membership

​

Life membership is for individuals looking to join and enjoy member benefits from The Scottish Tartans Authority personally. Our life members are from all walks of life and varying degrees of interest across the Scottish diaspora. From those with an existing understanding of tartan looking to expand their knowledge, to those who wish to support the continuation of research into this area of Scottish heritage. This is a one off payment.​

Industry Membership

​

Mills, highlandwear, retailers, museums and kiltmakers. All enjoy the benefits of The Scottish Tartans Authority Industry Membership status. To qualify, businesses within the highlandwear, textile manufacturing and heritage must be actively doing good for tartan related industries. In return for their support, our team of experts in this field offer them support and knowledge on projects, as well as giving them The STA stamp of approval as a company upholding the best quality and ethics.​

The Process

  • Prospective Life Members need to fill out the below application form, while prospective industry members can get in touch from the contact form below. We aim to look at all applications/enquiries within 14 working days, this may be longer and we kindly as that you keep in mind our Trustees are volunteers. Prospective life members are required to find current member referees before submitted their application.

  • Once a decision has been made on your application, you will be notified by email. At this point you will be sent a payment link to pay the membership fee. Life membership fees are a one-off payment of £200. Industry memberships are scaled based on your organisation and paid annually - if you have any questions please contact us to find out more. Please note membership fees are non refundable.

  • Once payment has been received - life member online accounts will be approved and they will be able to access exclusive member content, and industry members will be added to our industry directory. Initially members content will be further research articles and blogs, while we work on a calendar of  events and further access to information. Once your fees have been received your online account will be activated and an activation notifcation email sent to let you know.
     

  • Payment of fees and thus becoming a member is taken as acceptance of our code of conduct. Members must be respectful to one another, to and about our trustees and act as upstanding ambassadors of The Scottish Tartans Authority. If at any point a member acts outwith what is deemed acceptable or acts in such a way it risks throwing The Authority into disrepute, we reserve the right to revoke membership without refund.

Membership

Membership supports the continuation of our commitment to preserve the fabric of a nation. It allows the STA to research and protect artefacts of historical significance - from carbon dating fibres so we can learn more about tartans long history, to insuring pieces that travel the globe as part of high-profile exhibitions - allowing people around the world to enjoy and learn from them. In return for their support, our members gain access to a series of articles, research and events. 

Life Membership

​Prospective life members are required to fill out and submit the following application form. Please provide your details, a brief rationale about why you would like to be a member and provide two referees. These referees must be existing members of The Scottish Tartans Authority. We aim to review and reply to all applications within two weeks. We do reserve the right to ask for further clarification of details and to reject applications. 

Upon successful application we will invite you to create an online account so you can access our exclusive members content. Upon receipt of payment for your membership we will approve your online account and you can start enjoying detailed articles and exciting news.

Please note, you will be subscribed to our updates so you can be kept up to date on the progress of your application.
You can unsubscribe at any time, however you will no longer receive updates for members such notifications of exclusive articles and events.

Referees

Two existing members must referee your application. You must seek their permission to do this prior to your application.

About You

We would like to know something about the knowledge and aspirations of prospective Members. This helps us develop services and resources and allows us to confirm that the Authority is of interest to you.

Declaration

You are required to agree to the following Declaration before your application can be considered. The substance of the declaration will become binding immediately upon being admitted as a Member.


I, if admitted as a Member of The Scottish Tartans Authority, undertake not to commit any act, nor make any statement, that is likely to bring the Authority into disrepute nor to use the fact of my Membership to gain or seek to gain any advantage in a way that might be seen as contentious or improper. By checking the below box I agree to this.

Industry Membership

To discuss industry membership further, please contact enquiries@scottishtartansauthority.com of fill out the following initial contact form. We will be in touch within a minimum of 14 working days from submission. We are developing an application form, please check back soon.
